Submagic review: pricing, features and what testers found
Submagic adds animated captions and automatic edits such as B-roll, zooms and silence removal to short vertical videos; cutting long videos into shorts is a separate add-on. Paid plans start at $19 a month for 15 videos.
Our take
Submagic is a captioning tool first: testers found its animated captions accurate on clean audio and quick to produce, and one creator measured higher completion rates with them. It does not find clips in long videos unless you add Magic Clips for $19 a month more, each plan caps video length, and fees are non-refundable. Pick it if you already have short clips that need captions and polish.
Based on Submagic's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.
Good for
- Creators with short clips who want styled captions fast
- Social teams who want captions, B-roll and zooms in one pass
Watch out for
- Clipping long videos needs the Magic Clips add-on, $19 a month on top of a plan.
- Each plan caps video length: 2 minutes on Starter, 5 on Pro, 30 on Business.
- Fees are non-refundable (EU consumers have a 14-day withdrawal right).
- The free trial does not let you export finished videos from the editor.

- Captions still needed a read-through.
- The trial terms changed during 2026.
Tried By Humans · Miriam Alonso · May 5, 2026
What they tested: Over 50 short clips across 30 days: talking heads, podcast clips and product demos posted to TikTok and Reels.
- Captions on clean English audio needed 0-2 corrections per minute; noisy audio needed 4-8.
- Upload to first captions took 35-50 seconds per one-minute clip.
- In a small test of 20 clips, animated captions had higher completion than plain ones.
Their score: 4.4 out of 5
