Pictory review: pricing, features and what testers found
Pictory turns a script, blog post, slide deck or recording into a captioned video built from licensed stock footage and AI voiceover. Paid plans start at $29 a month for 200 minutes of exported video.
Our take
Pictory is a fast way to turn existing text into a stock-footage video, and its Starter plan works out to about 15 cents per exported minute. Testers agree the first cut needs work, because many auto-picked clips do not match the script. There is no refund and cancelling deletes your projects, so use the 14-day trial before paying.
Based on Pictory's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.
Good for
- Marketers, educators and bloggers repurposing written content into captioned videos
- Teams that want licensed stock footage and music without separate stock subscriptions
Watch out for
- No refunds on paid plans, and all projects are deleted when you cancel; download your videos first.
- Video minutes count exported video; on monthly billing they reset each month and do not roll over, while yearly plans get the year's minutes up front.
- Starter includes only 100 AI credits a month, about 1 minute of AI-generated video; stock-footage videos do not use credits.
- Testers had to replace many auto-picked clips: about half in TechRadar's test.
What Pictory does
- Script, article link, slide deck, document or recording to video, split into scenes with matched stock clips and captions
- Edit a recording by editing its transcript: cut filler words, trim silences, pull highlights
- Stock footage from Getty Images and Storyblocks plus a music library
- Standard AI voices and ElevenLabs voices; voice cloning from the Professional plan
- AI credits for generated images, short AI clips and avatars; brand kits

Price per minute of exported video is our calculation: the monthly-billing price divided by what the plan includes, assuming you use all of it. It is not a measured cost.

Zapier · Miguel Rebelo · updated July 8, 2026
What they tested: Pictory as one of 16 apps in a tested roundup of AI video generators.
- Picked as the best app for turning existing content into polished video.
- The editor was easy to find your way around.
- Output looks templated next to fully generative tools; it does not create original footage.
Unite.AI · Janine Heinrichs · March 18, 2026
What they tested: A 1-minute vertical tutorial built from a prompt on the 14-day trial, with clip swaps and an AI voiceover.
- The script and storyboard were ready within seconds.
- The first cut had captions, music and stock clips but felt flat and generic, and some clips did not fit the script.
- The video ran about two minutes although one minute was chosen.
- Swapping a clip or applying an AI voice took seconds.
TechRadar · Nigel Powell · June 20, 2024
What they tested: Article link to video, using one of the author's own articles. Plans have changed since this test.
- The AI-written script needed roughly 20-30% cleanup.
- About half of the auto-chosen clips had to be replaced, though swapping was easy.
- A two-minute video took about 90 minutes from start to finish.
