Opus Clip review: pricing, features and what testers found

Opus Clip finds the strongest moments in a long video, cuts them into captioned vertical shorts, scores each one and can post them to social platforms. Paid plans start at $15 a month for 150 minutes of source video.

Our take

Opus Clip turns a long podcast or webinar into a batch of ranked, captioned shorts quickly: one tester got 24 clips from a 59-minute episode in 8 minutes. Every clip still needs a check, because testers saw off-topic picks on rambling episodes and wrong words in captions. Credits are charged on the full length you upload, so trim intros first; subscription fees are not refunded.

Based on Opus Clip's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Podcasters and webinar hosts who want many captioned shorts quickly
  • Creators who want clip ranking, posting and scheduling in one place

Watch out for

  • Credits are charged on the full length of the video you import, not on the clips you keep.
  • Free clips are watermarked, cannot be edited and expire for export after 3 days.
  • Starter is monthly only; the yearly discount applies to Pro.
  • Subscription fees are not refunded.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Opus Clip ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

CreatorIntelHQ · Gaurav Sharma · updated September 28, 2026

What they tested: Captions and reframing on a 7-day Pro trial, then a free-plan export, rechecked in August and September 2026.

  • Natural-speech captions were usable but had several wrong words.
  • Reframing turned a horizontal talking head into a usable vertical clip.
  • Free downloads had the logo burned in, fading in after about 4 seconds.

Zapier · Miguel Rebelo · updated July 8, 2026

What they tested: Link import, clipping, ranking and scheduling in a tested roundup; picked for viral clips from long video.

  • The repurpose-to-publish workflow is fast and suits high-volume posting.
  • The built-in video editor is not very reliable.

The Podcast Host · Lindsay Harris Friel · December 16, 2025

What they tested: A 59-minute podcast episode on the Pro plan, plus looser earlier episodes.

  • Processing finished in 8 minutes and produced 24 clips.
  • On rambling episodes it picked eye-catching asides that were off topic.
  • The tester warned that captions can mix up sound-alike words, so every clip needs a check.
