WellSaid review: pricing, features and what testers found

WellSaid, long known as WellSaid Labs (wellsaidlabs.com now redirects to wellsaid.io), turns scripts into narration with AI voices built from licensed recordings of professional voice actors (English on self-serve plans), for training, marketing and product video teams. Generation is unlimited on paid plans and only downloaded audio counts: the free plan downloads 3 minutes a month without commercial rights, Starter costs $19 a month ($10 a month billed yearly) for 20 minutes and Pro $49 ($33 billed yearly) for 180.

Our take

WellSaid suits training, product and marketing teams that want polished English narration they can redo as often as they like: generation is unlimited on paid plans and only downloaded audio counts, 20 minutes a month on Starter ($19, or $10 a month billed yearly) and 180 on Pro ($49, or $33 billed yearly), which puts monthly Pro at about 27 cents a downloaded minute. Every voice is built from licensed recordings of professional voice actors who are paid royalties, Caruso, its most advanced model, costs nothing extra on any subscription tier, and WellSaid says customer data never trains its models. In Zapier's roundup, last updated in September 2026, Miguel Rebelo picked it for word-by-word control of pace, loudness, pitch, pauses and pronunciation, but found its emotional performance limited; the only other hands-on review we found, Unite.AI's, tested the 2023 Studio. The catches: other languages, translation, 96 kHz audio, SSO and ongoing API access are Enterprise-only at unpublished prices, Business is billed yearly only at $160 a user a month, payments are not refundable, add-on minutes have no published price, and the acceptable use policy forbids voiceovers featuring alcohol, tobacco, firearms or gambling, among other subjects.

Based on WellSaid's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Learning and development, product marketing and internal communications teams whose English narration goes through several review rounds, since retakes are free and only downloads count
  • Teams that need full commercial rights, caption files and a written promise that their scripts and audio are not used to train AI models
  • Enterprises that want SSO, SOC 2 reports, translation and non-English voices under one contract

Watch out for

  • Self-serve plans are English-only: the 17 other languages and translation come only with Enterprise, at prices WellSaid does not publish.
  • The allowance counts downloads by length: a downloaded take uses its full length and a file made with the Combine tool uses the combined length; only generating, retakes, previews and failed renders are free. Minutes reset each billing cycle and do not roll over; yearly plans get the whole year's minutes up front.
  • Payments are not refundable, including renewals you forgot to cancel and unused add-on minutes. The help center says to cancel at least two days before renewal, while the self-serve agreement says 24 hours.
  • Extra minutes come as add-ons bought inside Studio at prices not published on WellSaid's pages, and not on the free plan. The June 2026 plan-change article still calls add-ons planned for a future release, though the July 2026 add-on article and release notes say they are live; the self-serve agreement says usage beyond a plan's limits is billed in arrears, while the help center says downloads stop until the next cycle, an upgrade or an add-on.
  • Content rules are strict: the acceptable use policy forbids output featuring alcohol, tobacco and vaping, firearms, gambling, contraceptives or dating services, among other subjects, and text the moderation software flags is held for review and can freeze the account; allow-listing is offered only on Enterprise.
  • Business is billed yearly only ($1,920 a user a year) with at most 5 seats, and its Choose Business button opens the contact-sales page although the help center lists Business as a self-serve plan. API access is in no self-serve plan: after a 14-day, 50-call trial it needs an Enterprise contract.
  • WellSaid's own pages disagree on details: Pro's exports are MP3 and TXT in the comparison table, MP3 only in the FAQ and MP3, WAV, OGG and TXT in the page's structured data; the free plan gets curated voices on the pricing page but the full English range by the help center; and the voice count is 240+ or 280+ depending on the page.
  • These prices and minutes are for new customers: the June 2026 change moved new plans to downloaded minutes, existing Business and Enterprise customers keep counted downloads until their contracts end, and older plans stay available until cancelled.

Price per minute of generated speech is our calculation: the monthly-billing price divided by what the plan includes, assuming you use all of it. It is not a measured cost.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested WellSaid ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Zapier · Miguel Rebelo · updated September 8, 2026

What they tested: WellSaid's web Studio among the AI voice generators he tested over a few weeks, judging delivery from his ten years as an actor: the per-word controls for emotion, loudness, pace, pitch and pauses, and pronunciation replacements; picked as the best for word-by-word control. The article does not date this test; its price line describes the June 2026 plans (Starter at $19 a month for 20 downloaded minutes).

  • A sliders panel, opened from an icon at the top right of the text box, sets loudness, pace, pitch and six basic emotions for the text you highlight, and selecting a comma or period adjusts the pause; each kind of edit is underlined in its own color, a useful map when revisiting a script.
  • Large adjustments make the voice sound less real, so he advises small ones; pronunciation replacements take some trial and error, helped by WellSaid's respelling guide.
  • He rates unlimited retakes and the Adobe Premiere Pro and Express integrations as strengths; his one con is emotional delivery, which he found somewhat weak and hard to steer.

Unite.AI · Janine Heinrichs · October 14, 2023

What they tested: The 2023 WellSaid Labs Studio on its one-week free trial, with the then-new 'Future' voice version: picking from 50+ voices, respelling a word, cues for loudness, pace and pauses, and sharing a project link. This predates Caruso, the October 2025 Studio redesign and today's minute-based plans; the page was last updated March 30, 2026 but still describes the 2023 trial and voice count, and links to WellSaid and its rivals through affiliate links.

  • Voice quality varied across the library, but she was impressed by how human most of the voices sounded.
  • A respelling of 'edamame' made the voice say it the way she wanted, and the fix was saved to a pronunciation library, with the word marked wherever she typed it.
  • The trial lasted a week and could not download audio; she listed other languages being Enterprise-only, pronunciation fixes that take trial and error and a higher price than other voice apps as drawbacks.
