Koala AI review: pricing, features and what testers found

Koala AI is an AI SEO platform built around KoalaWriter, which turns a keyword into a researched, search-optimized article and can publish it to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or Ghost; an SEO agent, chat, images and internal linking come in the same subscription. Paid plans start at $25 a month, or $20 a month billed yearly.

Our take

Koala AI is an SEO content platform built around the KoalaWriter article writer, which turns a keyword into a researched, structured article; plans start at $25 a month for 45,000 words. Yatharth Verma of SEO Rank rated the 2026 KoalaWriter v2 4.6/5, with research and SEO among its strongest areas, but would not publish a draft untouched. The main caveat is the allowance: words are counted on GPT-6 Luna, and GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5 use it twice as fast, Claude Opus 5.5 three times as fast.

Watch out for

  • Word allowances are counted on GPT-6 Luna: GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5 count words at 2x and Claude Opus 5.5 at 3x, so Starter's 45,000 words cover 22,500 on Sonnet 5 or 15,000 on Opus 5.5.
  • Articles in some non-English languages also use more of the allowance: Koala bills by tokens, and its help center says some languages count each letter as a word.
  • Refunds only within 15 days of buying a new plan, and only if you used under 15,000 words and 100 credits; cancelling stops the plan at the end of the paid term, and upgrades are not prorated.
  • On monthly billing, unused credits expire after a month; yearly billing lists the year's total (540,000 words and 6,000 credits on Starter), and the FAQ says yearly credits come up front and last 12 months.
  • Plans list no user seats; the FAQ allows sharing one account within your organization.
  • Older reviews quote a $9 Essentials plan with 15,000 words; the pricing page no longer lists it, and Starter at $25 is now the cheapest plan.

What they tested: The KoalaWriter v2 dashboard, article settings and Brand DNA, shown with screenshots, and the research tools and editor, described in text; the review gives no plan, test dates or sample articles.

  • Reviewing the outline before generating made it possible to drop weak sections before they used up the word allowance.
  • Research and SEO were among the strongest areas (4.7/5, level with brand context), but the reviewer would still check the sources rather than trust the citations it attached.
  • Drafts can still read like AI writing, and the full feature set may be more than someone publishing a few articles a month needs.
