Kapwing review: pricing, features and what testers found

Kapwing is a collaborative browser video editor with AI subtitles, transcript trimming, dubbing and prompt-to-video, paid for from a monthly credit pool. Paid plans start at $24 a month per member.

Our take

Testers found Kapwing's browser editor smooth and close to a desktop app, and its real-time collaboration suits social and marketing teams. It costs more than VEED for one person, the free plan is enough to try the editor but TechRadar needed several accounts to test the AI tools, and there are no refunds after you upgrade.

Based on Kapwing's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Social and marketing teams editing short videos together
  • Creators who subtitle, resize and translate at volume

Watch out for

  • No refunds once you upgrade, and no free trial of paid plans.
  • The free plan keeps projects for only 3 days and caps exports at 720p with a watermark.
  • AI features share a monthly credit pool; only Business and Enterprise can buy extra credits.
  • Priced per member, so team costs grow with seats.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Kapwing ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Zapier · Tim Brookes · updated October 5, 2026

What they tested: 4K HDR clips with basic and advanced edits and exports, in a tested roundup; picked as the best full-featured web editor.

  • The browser editor felt like a desktop app and was snappy.
  • You can start cutting before footage finishes uploading.
  • The AI tools feel optional and spend credits; the free tier is 720p with a watermark.

TechRadar · Krishi Chowdhary · July 20, 2026

What they tested: Prompt-to-video, editing with text, audio and subtitles, and AI characters, on the free plan.

  • A 5-second video generated within seconds, though Kapwing said it would be 7 seconds.
  • Editing was smooth with no lag or timeouts.
  • The free plan was so limited the reviewer needed more than two accounts.
  • Judged expensive for personal use next to VEED.

Their score: 4.25 out of 5 in the page data (the star widget shows 4)
