Jasper review: pricing, features and what testers found

Jasper is an AI marketing platform for writing on-brand copy, with a Canvas editor, 100+ marketing agents and brand voice controls. Paid plans start at $69 a month for one seat, or $59 a month billed yearly.

Our take

Jasper suits marketing teams that need many people writing in one brand voice more than solo writers. Zapier's Harry Guinness found its Brand Voice brought test blog posts noticeably closer to his own writing, though he saw no big difference between its raw output and other apps'. Unite.AI's Janine Heinrichs found first drafts generic, with placeholders and unlinked citations to fix, and judged it hard to justify for someone who mainly wants an AI writer. Pro costs $69 a month for one seat, team features need the custom-priced Business plan, and there are no refunds when you cancel.

Watch out for

  • Pro is one seat with 2 Brand Voices, 5 Knowledge assets and 3 Audiences; more users, Style Guide, Grid, custom agents and API access need Business, priced by sales on a 12-month commitment.
  • No free plan, and the 7-day trial bills automatically when it ends, with no reminder, unless you cancel before midnight Pacific time on its last day.
  • No refunds when you cancel. Yearly billing is paid up front for 12 months; Jasper says it saves about 20%, but $59 against $69 is about 14%.
  • The Pro terms say Jasper uses your inputs and outputs to develop its AI models, with a way to object stated only for EU and UK users, while the pricing FAQ says Jasper does not use your data to train AI models.

What they tested: Set up a Brand Voice, Knowledge Base and Audience for Unite.AI, then made a LinkedIn post and tone variations from a campaign brief in Canvas, and asked the Pillar Article agent for a 1,200-word article with a featured image.

  • The Brand Voice it built from a couple of blog posts and the Audience it built from her description were accurate, and tone variations came back in seconds.
  • A LinkedIn post came back short and basic, with bracketed placeholders, even with the brand context loaded.
  • The long article read well but ran to about 1,700 words, cited sources only by name and year with no links, and its image had the wrong aspect ratio.

What they tested: Jasper beside other AI writing apps, including a Brand Voice built from his own writing and a few test blog posts.

  • Picked as the best AI writing generator for businesses and one of the most mature, feature-filled apps on the list.
  • Posts in his Brand Voice were significantly closer to his writing than a generic casual tone, though it used a few words he would not.
  • He saw no massive difference between Jasper's output and other apps', and called it expensive since the apps use similar models.

What they tested: Jasper against ChatGPT on prompting, brand customization, marketing tasks, agents and price, after using Jasper to scale content for her own site.

  • Prompt help (an Enhance prompt button, a prompt library and 100+ agent workflows) suits less experienced prompters.
  • Brand documents are quick to set up: a few links to existing content generate a brand voice, and a side-by-side test shows output with and without it.
  • Its many options can make it more confusing than ChatGPT, and with no free plan it is expensive for small businesses.
