Animaker review: pricing, features and what testers found

Animaker makes animated explainer, training and marketing videos in the browser from templates and a cartoon character builder, and its AI turns a prompt into an editable animated draft with script, characters and voiceover. Starter costs $45 a month, or $25 a month billed yearly ($300), for 10 watermark-free downloads a month; commercial rights start with Pro at $79 a month.

Our take

Animaker suits non-designers in training, HR and marketing who want animated explainers built from templates and a cartoon character builder, with AI that turns one prompt into an editable animated draft. Starter costs $45 a month, or $25 a month billed yearly, for 10 watermark-free full HD downloads, 3,000 AI video credits and 90 seconds of generative video a month, but the plan table gives commercial rights only from Pro ($79 a month, or $43 billed yearly). Cybernews' Konstantinas Kofanovas, testing in September 2025 for a roundup last updated in February 2026, got a two-and-a-half-minute 2D explainer with narration and captions from one prompt and found the editor its real strength, though rendering was slow and the captions needed fixes; TechRadar's Steve Paris, in a February 2023 test of the editor before Animaker's prompt-to-video AI existed, liked the character builder and automatic subtitles but found the browser editor laggy. Neither tested the generative video tools added since October 2025, which this record describes from Animaker's own pages. Fees are non-refundable, the pricing page does not say how many credits an AI draft costs, and Enterprise's unlimited downloads are capped at 500 a year by the fair usage policy.

Based on Animaker's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • L&D, HR and internal-communication teams making animated explainer, onboarding and training videos without an animator
  • Non-designers who want an AI first draft and then full control of every scene, character and voice in a template editor
  • Students and non-profit organizations, which can ask Animaker's support for special pricing; students can also start on the free plan, which the terms limit to personal, non-commercial use

Watch out for

  • Commercial rights start with Pro: the plan table gives none to Free or Starter, the help center says monetizing videos on YouTube, Instagram or TikTok needs Pro or Enterprise, and reselling videos to a third party needs Enterprise. The terms limit free accounts to personal, non-commercial use.
  • Downloads are counted: 3 a month on Free (watermarked), 10 on Starter and 30 on Pro, then $15 (Starter) or $10 (Pro) for each extra download. Premium stock beyond the monthly asset credits costs $1 an image and $5 a video per project by a 2021 help article. Enterprise's 'unlimited' downloads and video length are capped by the fair usage policy at 500 downloads a year, 2,500 minutes in all and 30 minutes a video.
  • AI use is counted in Animaker's own units, and the pricing page does not say how many AI video credits a draft costs or whether unused credits and seconds carry over. Starter's 90 seconds of generative video a month make a minute and a half of generated footage; a July 2026 one-star Trustpilot review says a $45 month bought a single one-minute generated video.
  • Fees are non-refundable by the terms and the help center (the terms' only refund cases are the service becoming unavailable through technical problems or an unreasonable delay in access to it), plans renew automatically until you switch to the Free plan under My Plans, and a downgrade takes effect at the end of the paid period.
  • Animaker's pages disagree about a cheaper Basic plan: the pricing page's FAQ calls Basic ($15 a month) the cheapest paid plan, the home page lists four premium plans and older help articles still describe Basic, but the pricing page a US visitor sees offers only Starter, Pro and Enterprise. Its code drops Basic for some countries, the US among them; served for others, such as Brazil and the Philippines, the same page shows Basic at $27 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly. Cybernews' tester quoted paid plans from $15 a month.
  • Both testers hit rough edges: TechRadar's Steve Paris found the online editor often laggy, with voiceover playing late in preview, and Cybernews' Konstantinas Kofanovas found rendering slow and auto-captioning 'a bit glitchy'.
  • Trustpilot shows 4.5 out of 5 from 655 reviews, but 18 of the 20 newest reviews, all five-star, came in through a review link the business shares with customers (the page's own data; Trustpilot labels such reviews 'Unprompted review'), and many thank its support staff, several by name; 14% of all reviews are one-star, and one-star reviews from 2025 and 2026 describe refused refunds, trouble cancelling, crashes and lost scenes.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Animaker ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Cybernews · Konstantinas Kofanovas · updated February 6, 2026

What they tested: Animaker's AI Generate feature as one of 7 tools in a tested roundup of AI animation generators, picked for educational animations: he answered the AI's questions about style and purpose, gave it the prompt 'animate the life of an orange' that he used for every tool, then edited the draft in the timeline editor. The roundup was first published on September 25, 2025 (the Internet Archive's copy of September 26, 2025 has the same byline and Animaker text) and its Animaker screenshots date from September 2025, so it predates and does not cover the Gen AI Video and AI Clip generators of October and November 2025. The plan used is not named. Its link to Animaker is a plain link to the pricing page, while its links to Runway, DomoAI, Pippit and Synthesia go through Cybernews' tracked redirects; the site says it may earn affiliate commissions.

  • Within minutes, one prompt became a two-and-a-half-minute explainer with scenes, narration and captions, in Animaker's familiar flat 2D style with smooth transitions and an upbeat voiceover.
  • He had to correct a few captions and judged the lip-sync acceptable.
  • He rated the editor Animaker's main strength: with the timeline and drag-and-drop controls he could adjust pacing, replace assets and rework the narration, drawing on a big library of characters, props, backgrounds and music.
  • Against presenter-style tools such as Synthesia, he found Animaker more flexible for telling animated stories; his main complaint was slow rendering, above all of large videos, which he called usual for browser-based tools.
  • His other cons: auto-captioning that can be 'a bit glitchy', and Animaker branding on free-plan videos.

Their score: 3 out of 5

TechRadar · Steve Paris · February 20, 2023

What they tested: Animaker's browser editor on its 2023 plans, before Animaker AI's prompt-to-video existed (Animaker's February 2025 release note says it launched about a year earlier): signing up, templates, the scene-based editor, the separate subtitle tool, voiceover with lip-sync from uploaded, recorded and text-to-speech audio, and the character builder. The prices it quotes ($20 to $79 a month) are from 2023. Its link to Animaker is plain.

  • Starting a project from a template or a blank slate was simple, in a well-organized, scene-based workspace he found more straightforward than even beginner video editors.
  • The automatic subtitles were very accurate and quick to correct, and they work on videos made outside Animaker, but they live in a separate subtitle project rather than in the editor.
  • Lip-sync worked well with uploaded or recorded audio; the text-to-speech voice sounded flat and lifeless.
  • Voiceover can be recorded only scene by scene, and in preview the voice played a few seconds late, often over the next scene, though the exported video was in sync.
  • The character builder was the best part, with a vast range of features and outfits, but the online editor often lagged, and he advises against more than five characters in a scene.

Their score: 4 out of 5
