Seedance review: pricing, features and what testers found

Seedance is ByteDance's family of video models with native sound; the current Seedance 2.5 makes clips of up to 30 seconds from text and up to 50 image, video and audio references. ByteDance sells it in Dreamina, where paid plans start at $15 a month, and through the BytePlus API.

Our take

Seedance 2.5 suits creators who want top-ranked cinematic clips with sound: it placed 3rd on Artificial Analysis's text-to-video board with audio, ahead of Kling 3.0 (16th) and Veo 3.1 (19th). ByteDance sells it in Dreamina from $15 a month for 1,575 credits, or through the BytePlus API at $0.231 a second at 720p. Testing the earlier Seedance 2.0, Curious Refuge's Tyler Smith found it beat Kling 3.0 on effects and multi-shot scenes and Cybernews' Alexandra Akhmetova praised its camera moves and lip sync, but both saw soft detail or distorted hands up close. Dreamina's subscription credits lapse each month, and its terms give ByteDance a licence to use what you upload and generate.

Based on Seedance's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Cinematic short scenes with action, camera moves and synced sound
  • Long single takes and multi-shot sequences guided by many reference images, clips or audio files
  • Developers who want per-second API pricing from ByteDance itself

Watch out for

  • Seedance is a model, not one app: ByteDance sells it in Dreamina and the BytePlus API, while resellers such as Higgsfield charge their own credit prices; Cybernews tested Seedance 2.0 through a third-party app (DeeVid AI).
  • Dreamina plans are counted in credits, not seconds. Its plan cards estimate Basic's 1,575 credits at 19 ten-second Seedance 2.0 Fast clips at 720p, but say Seedance 2.0 Fast at 720p costs 43% fewer credits only during an event ending October 23, when the first-month prices ($1.50 for Basic by card or PayPal) also end. Prices vary by region.
  • Subscription credits are valid only for the month and lapse when the subscription ends, daily free credits reset at midnight, and credits are non-refundable, even for results you dislike; failed generations are not charged.
  • Dreamina's terms describe the service as generally for private, non-commercial use and give ByteDance and other Dreamina users a perpetual, irrevocable licence to use your inputs and outputs for any purpose; its privacy policy lists training its machine-learning models among the uses of the data it collects.
  • Seedance 2.0 in Dreamina blocks uploads with realistic human faces, so reference photos or videos of real people will not generate.

Free plan: Dreamina gives daily free credits, in an unstated amount, that reset at midnight and let you try Seedance 2.0; free downloads carry the Dreamina watermark. Dreamina's help centre says Seedance 2.5 is for subscribers, but its Seedance 2.5 page says the free daily credits can test it.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Seedance ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Artificial Analysis Video Arena · October 12, 2026

What they tested: Blind human votes between text-to-video models, read on the day we checked.

  • Dreamina Seedance 2.5 ranked 3rd and Dreamina Seedance 2.0 7th (Elo 1116) on the board with audio.
  • Kling 3.0 ranked 16th and Veo 3.1 19th on the same board.

Their score: Seedance 2.5 Elo 1143, rank 3 with audio

Cybernews · Alexandra Akhmetova · March 6, 2026

What they tested: An 8-second stand-up comedy scene with a dolly-in and soft jazz, made with Seedance 2.0 on the third-party DeeVid AI platform.

  • The dolly-in looked natural, with camera micro-movements and depth of field that adjusted realistically.
  • Speech was lip-synced, the jazz stayed under the voice, and the model wrote its own punchline.
  • Paused frames showed distorted hands in the audience and garbled bottle labels, and the clip came out a second short.

Curious Refuge · Tyler Smith · February 20, 2026

What they tested: Seedance 2.0 on physics, effects, multi-shot, lip-sync and resolution tests, several side by side with Kling 3.0.

  • Motion had believable weight; it clearly beat Kling 3.0 on an expensive-looking effects shot and did better on multi-shot continuity, with room to grow.
  • Zoomed in, its 720p clips showed soft edges, warping faces and almost no detail in crowds; with no true 4K, it called resolution one of the biggest things holding it back.
  • Lip sync beat Kling 3.0, but the delivery felt robotic and subtle expressions were weak.
