Recraft review: pricing, features and what testers found

Recraft is an AI image studio built for designers: its own models make both raster images and editable vector (SVG) graphics, with editing, mockups and other companies' models in the same canvas. Paid plans start at $12 a month for 1,000 credits.

Our take

Recraft is the pick for designers who need logos, icons and brand graphics as editable vectors: Zapier's Harry Guinness named it the best AI image generator for graphic design, and Kittl, a design app that offers Recraft V4 in its own editor, found in about 200 prompts on V4 and V4 Pro that first attempts were usable without re-prompting and its SVG output was made of real editable paths. For raw image quality it trails the leaders: on October 9, 2026 its best model ranked 29th of 168 in Artificial Analysis's blind votes. Paid plans start at $12 a month for 1,000 credits, about 500 V4.1 images, and free-plan images are public and cannot be used commercially.

Based on Recraft's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Designers making logos, icons, illustrations and brand assets they want as SVG files
  • Marketing and brand teams that need many images in one consistent style

Watch out for

  • Free-plan images are public, belong to Recraft and cannot be used commercially; paid-plan images stay yours after you cancel.
  • Credits per image depend on the model: V4.1 uses 2, V4.1 Pro 10 and Nano Banana Pro 32, so Basic's 1,000 credits are about 500 V4.1 images but about 31 Nano Banana Pro images. Chat-mode messages also cost credits, more as a conversation grows.
  • Monthly credits do not roll over; top-ups cost $2 per 200 credits and never expire.
  • Refunds are at Recraft's discretion, only within 30 days of your last payment and only if you used no credits since or fewer than 30 credits ever; API units are non-refundable.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Recraft ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Artificial Analysis Image Arena · October 9, 2026

What they tested: Blind preference votes between text-to-image models, read on the day we checked.

  • Recraft V4.1 Utility ranked 29th of 168 models (Elo 1022).
  • The standard Recraft V4.1 ranked 55th (Elo 989) and V4.1 Flash 77th (Elo 957).

Their score: Best Recraft model ranks 29 of 168

Zapier · Harry Guinness · updated August 3, 2026

What they tested: Recraft as one of eight picks in a roundup of AI image generators, judged on ease of use, controls, pricing and image quality.

  • He called it probably the most impressive app on the list, with graphic design features he rated second to none.
  • Image sets keep one style and color palette across many prompts, and work exports as SVG as well as JPG and PNG.
  • It is more complicated to use than some of the other apps.

Their score: Best AI image generator for graphic design

Kittl · June 1, 2026

What they tested: About 200 prompts on Recraft V4 and V4 Pro from April to May 2026, covering product photos, posters, logos, icons and vectors, through Kittl and the Recraft API. Kittl offers both models in its own design app, so this is not an independent test.

  • First-try quality scored 5 of 5, the best of the models compared; outputs were usable without re-prompting.
  • Native SVG output gave real editable paths for logos and icons, with no tracing.
  • At about 10 seconds an image it was slow, counts above five or six items were unreliable, and characters drifted between scenes.

Their score: 4.26/5, 5th of 8 image models

Tom's Guide · Christoph Schwaiger · August 31, 2025

What they tested: The free plan: a studio photo from a prompt with Recraft V3, area edits on an uploaded room photo, and a label mockup on a product photo.

  • The V3 image showed potential but was not ready to use; ChatGPT did better with the same prompt.
  • An area edit added the requested whiteboard text but ignored his three other requests.
  • The mockup label followed the jar's shape, but its placement did not look physically right, and free credits ran out quickly.
