OpenArt review: pricing, features and what testers found

OpenArt is a web studio that runs 100+ image, video and audio models, mostly from other companies, such as Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 and Seedance 2.5, on one credit balance, with tools for consistent characters, one-click story videos and Director, which builds videos of up to five minutes through chat. Paid plans start at $14 a month for 4,000 credits, and commercial use starts with Plus at $34.

Our take

OpenArt suits creators who want to try many image and video models, and keep a character consistent across them, without paying for each model's own app: one credit balance covers 100+ models, from Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 2.5 to Seedance 2.5 and Veo 3.1. Starter costs $14 a month for 4,000 credits, but its 'up to ~4,000 images' names no model, and what a credit buys depends on the model: OpenArt's Business tab counts 150,000 credits as about 3,750 Nano Banana Pro images, 40 credits each, but it states no per-image cost for the individual plans. Commercial use starts with Plus at $34. Testing an earlier version, Cybernews' Vėjūnė Rimašiūtė found images arrived in seconds and matched her prompts closely, though a glass prism needed editing, and Aurelija Tomkevičiūtė found it did what her prompt asked, though the koi fish she asked for could have been worked in better; TechCrunch's Lauren Forristal noticed One-Click Story offering characters such as Pikachu and SpongeBob, an intellectual-property risk. The catches are no refunds, credits that lapse every 30 days, and unpublished work kept only 7 days if you never subscribe, or 14 days after a subscription ends; Trustpilot reviewers rate it 3.6 out of 5 from 1,563 reviews.

Based on OpenArt's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Comparing many image and video models on the same prompt without a separate subscription for each
  • Recurring characters across images, short stories and videos, such as an AI influencer, a comic or a music video
  • People who work in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want images and video made from there on one credit balance

Watch out for

  • Plans are counted in credits, and what they buy depends on the model: the plan cards' 'up to ~4,000 images' on Starter's 4,000 credits names no model, and OpenArt states a per-image cost only on its Business tab, where 150,000 credits make about 3,750 Nano Banana Pro images or 375 Seedance 2.0 videos (40 and 400 credits each). The terms let OpenArt change what a generation costs during your subscription.
  • Commercial use starts with Plus ($34 a month): the pricing table and the terms (updated July 30, 2026) give free and Starter users non-commercial use only, even though OpenArt's help center and blog say anything you make can be used commercially.
  • The free plan is a one-time trial of 40 credits that lasts 7 days, with no video tools; free output may carry a visible OpenArt watermark that the terms forbid removing.
  • Unpublished creations are deleted 7 days after you make them if you never subscribe, and 14 days after a subscription ends; deletions are final.
  • No refunds except where the law requires, and none prorated; cancel at least 5 days before renewal to avoid the next charge. Subscription credits reset every 30 days without rolling over and are lost when the plan ends; only add-on credits ($15 for 5,000 a month, from Plus up) roll over. Moving from a yearly to a monthly plan brings a partial refund of the unused part, minus a processing fee of at least 10%.
  • The pricing page runs short, time-limited promotions, such as discounts on particular models and 'unlimited' generation of a listed model on Pro or Wonder, so check what is on offer the day you buy. 'Unlimited' generation covers only the models the page lists at the time, may move heavy users to a slower queue, and excludes MCP and CLI use.
  • OpenArt has no mobile app; apps named 'Openart AI' in the US App Store come from other sellers (Bobby Preston, FROUK TOV).
  • Your prompts, reference images and results may be shared with the outside model companies that run each generation, and uploads give OpenArt a perpetual licence to operate the service and moderate content; OpenArt's help center says it does not train models on your uploads or creations. Users must be 18 or older.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested OpenArt ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Cybernews · Aurelija Tomkevičiūtė · updated February 6, 2026

What they tested: OpenArt among the AI image generators in a roundup first published in December 2024 and last updated in February 2026: generating an image from a text prompt. She does not say which plan she used; the roundup lists paid plans from $7 a month for up to 4,000 credits.

  • An image took about 30 seconds; she found generation usually took 10 to 30 seconds, depending on the quality and style chosen.
  • The result did what her prompt asked, but some elements she had asked for, such as koi fish, could have been worked in better.
  • Walkthrough tutorials and drag-and-drop uploads made the interface fairly intuitive.

Cybernews · Vėjūnė Rimašiūtė · November 18, 2025

What they tested: OpenArt among the AI art generators she ran the same two prompts through, a candid golden-hour portrait of a person holding a glass prism and a fantasy valley with floating islands, two moons and a rope bridge; picked as the best overall. She does not say which plan she used; the plans she listed then started with Essential at $7 a month for 4,000 credits.

  • Images arrived within seconds and matched the prompts closely; the portrait of a girl holding a prism at golden hour looked realistic.
  • For commercial use she would still have needed to edit the glass prism to look more natural, and some image elements can come out wrong.
  • She liked editing by chat, which changes backgrounds, colors or poses after generation without rewriting the prompt.

TechCrunch · Lauren Forristal · August 8, 2025

What they tested: One-Click Story when it opened in beta in August 2025, which turns a sentence, script or song into a one-minute video from Character Vlog, Music Video or Explainer templates; a launch story with one hands-on observation, and it does not say which plan was used.

  • During TechCrunch's testing, the Character Vlog template offered characters such as Pikachu, SpongeBob and Super Mario, which she flagged as an intellectual-property risk.
  • OpenArt's CEO told her its models reject uploaded copyrighted characters by default, but that sometimes one slips through.
