Bolt.new review: pricing, features and what testers found
Bolt.new is a browser-based AI builder from StackBlitz that turns a chat prompt into a working website, web app or mobile app, with hosting and databases built in. Pro plans start at $25 a month for 10 million tokens.
Our take
Bolt.new gets a prototype or small web app running fast, but testers found it less dependable as a build grows, and its token billing is hard to predict. Zapier's Miguel Rebelo found it the quickest of three vibe coding tools on low-to-medium tasks, while TechRadar found it slower than rivals and prone to adding things the prompt never asked for. Technically's tester saw it stray from its own build plan and gave up fixing a map after five rounds of prompts. Bigger projects use more tokens per message, subscriptions are non-refundable, and Trustpilot reviewers rate it 1.6 out of 5.
Based on Bolt.new's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.
Good for
- Prototypes, landing pages and small web apps you want live quickly
- Hackathons and time-boxed builds, where Zapier found its short iteration loop pays off
Watch out for
- Usage is counted in tokens, and most go to syncing your project files to the AI, so each message costs more as a project grows; Technically's tester found no way to see what one prompt cost.
- Subscriptions are non-refundable, and an annual plan can only be downgraded at its yearly renewal.
- Unused paid tokens roll over for one extra month only, and you lose them at the end of the billing cycle if you cancel; free tokens never roll over.
- A $9-a-month Lite plan that builds only with Bolt Forge's open-source models takes new sign-ups until October 14, 2026; Forge sessions are de-identified and used to train open models, except from the EEA, UK and Switzerland.
What Bolt.new does
- Builds websites, full-stack web apps and, through Expo, mobile apps from a chat prompt, in the browser with nothing to install
- Standard and Max agents, with Max for large codebases and complex features on paid plans
- Bolt Cloud hosting, unlimited databases, user sign-in, file storage, server functions and analytics in one project
- Stripe payments, GitHub sync, MCP servers, and imports from Figma, Google Stitch and Lovable
- A code view for editing files by hand; the code you create is yours, including for commercial use

Price per million tokens is our calculation: the monthly-billing price divided by what the plan includes, assuming you use all of it. It is not a measured cost.

What hands-on testers found
We have not tested Bolt.new ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.
Zapier · Miguel Rebelo · updated July 1, 2026
What they tested: Projects built in Lovable, Bolt and Replit, as a software tester and as a non-technical builder, including the same landing page with a scroll-triggered rocket animation in all three.
- Bolt returned results fastest on low-to-medium tasks, but varied more and could be slower on big plan-mode prompts.
- It left out the rocket animation that Lovable managed and chose a safer design.
- Visual selection and file locking made targeted fixes quick.
TechRadar · Christian Cawley · July 1, 2026
What they tested: One prompt to build a live crypto price calculator for USD, EUR and GBP from a free API, then publishing it.
- The build took a little over five minutes; other tools they tried took under 90 seconds.
- It went off-script, adding more currencies than the three the prompt asked for.
- Publishing took one click and the documentation was excellent, but the free 300K daily tokens were too few to explore revisions.
Their score: 3 out of 5
Technically · Justin · December 18, 2025
What they tested: The same three-view business app (a shipments database table, an analytics dashboard and a map) built in Replit, v0, Lovable and Bolt; the post was sponsored by Vercel, which makes v0.
- Bolt drafted a detailed plan but first built only a read-only table, needing another round for the planned features.
- The charts needed re-prompting, and he gave up on the map after five rounds of fixes.
- There was no way to see how many tokens each prompt used.
