Adobe Firefly review: pricing, features and what testers found

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's AI app for making and editing images, video and audio with Adobe's own models and partner models from Google, OpenAI and others, on the web, on mobile and inside Photoshop. Paid plans start at $9.99 a month.

Our take

Firefly makes most sense if you already edit in Photoshop: Zapier's Harry Guinness found its Photoshop integration "next level", even though its plain text-to-image results were hit and miss. Amrytt's four-week test found Generative Fill production-ready about 70 to 80% of the time, and AllAboutAI rated a product shot from the Firefly Image 5 preview 9 out of 10. Plans start at $9.99 a month with unlimited standard Firefly images, but Image 5 and partner models draw on a monthly credit allowance: 10 credits a generation for Image 5 and up to 80 for OpenAI's GPT Image 2.

Based on Adobe Firefly's published plans and the hands-on tests linked below, not on a test of our own.

Good for

  • Designers who already use Photoshop and want AI fills and expansions inside their own images
  • Brand and marketing images from models Adobe trained on licensed and public-domain content

Watch out for

  • Standard Firefly images are unlimited and use no credits on every paid plan; only premium models spend credits. They cost per generation: 10 credits for Firefly Image 5, 20 for Image 4 Ultra and 5 to 80 for GPT Image 2 by resolution, so the premium-image counts here assume Image 4 Ultra and change with the model.
  • Credits reset each month and do not roll over; when they run out you wait, upgrade or buy a credit add-on plan of 2,000 to 50,000 credits a month.
  • Adobe calls its own models commercially safe, but you must judge partner-model outputs yourself, and IP indemnification comes only with enterprise plans.
  • On most plans a full refund needs cancelling within 14 days of the first purchase; after you cancel, access runs to the end of the billing period.

What hands-on testers found

We have not tested Adobe Firefly ourselves. These are the published tests we found that used it hands-on, newest first; follow the links for the full reviews.

Zapier · Harry Guinness · updated August 3, 2026

What they tested: Firefly on the web and in Photoshop, run against other image generators on the same prompts for a best-of roundup, last updated by an app tester in April 2026.

  • As a pure text-to-image generator its results were hit and miss: some matched the best tools, others missed the prompt.
  • Its Photoshop integration stood out; in his example Generative Fill matched the photo's depth-of-field blur.
  • He calls it the first AI image tool that felt like a real tool rather than a party trick.

Their score: Best for integrating AI-generated images into photos

Amrytt · Sanchita Gidh · June 16, 2026

What they tested: Four weeks on the Standard and Pro plans, with 10 to 15 prompts in each of image, video, vector, Creative Cloud integration and prompt accuracy.

  • Generative Fill in Photoshop gave production-quality results about 70 to 80% of the time; human figures and complex scenes sometimes needed a retry.
  • Images were solid for products and marketing but felt "stock photo safe" next to Midjourney for stylized work.
  • Support (3.8 out of 5) and value for money (3.9) were its lowest ratings.

Their score: 4.3 out of 5

AllAboutAI · Aisha Imtiaz · updated March 3, 2026

What they tested: Firefly Image Model 5 (preview) on a portrait and a product shot, and Firefly's audio generation on a sound effect, each from a structured prompt.

  • The product shot scored 9 out of 10, with professional-looking reflections, lighting and materials.
  • The portrait scored 8.5: realistic light and skin tones, but fine detail such as hair was slightly soft.
  • The sound effect was believable, though some variations sounded slightly synthetic (8 out of 10).
